The end of the school year is always a time of reflection for me, and as I reflect on this year, I am filled with immense gratitude for every member of our BSD2 staff. Thank you for your extraordinary dedication to our students and community.

With another successful school year nearly in the books, District 2 employees gathered May 22 at White Pines Golf Club to recognize colleagues who are retiring or celebrating milestone anniversaries with the District, teachers who recently earned tenure with the District, and staff who were honored with the District’s new “Those that Excel” Awards.

Thursday, May 30, is the last day of the 2023-2024 school year, and the end of the third trimester. On Thursday, June 6, third-trimester report cards will be mailed to all students' home addresses.

Bensenville School District 2 will serve FREE breakfasts to anyone 18 years and younger throughout the month of June.

Registration for new students or returning students who have not yet registered will be from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, August 1, at all District 2 schools.

Students will not be able to attend school after Friday, August 23, unless the required physical and updated immunizations are presented to the school.

Eligible families will receive a $120 benefit card per student to help buy food during the summer through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s new Summer Electronic Benefits (EBT) program, also known as SUN Bucks.

During our April 30 parent information session on strengthening school safety, District and school administrators explained the programs in place to support the mental health and emotional well-being of our students. They also reviewed investments made to the physical security of our facilities and improvements made to our emergency response procedures.

Right at School After School (RAS) programming will continue again next year. Due to the COVID Relief Funding (ESSER) sunsetting, Right at School will be a parent-paid program moving forward.

On March 1, the CDC changed its COVID guidance, advising that COVID should now be treated the same as other respiratory viruses like a cold or the flu.

We’re hiring paraprofessionals to serve in a variety of different capacities. “What’s a paraprofessional?” Good question - they’re vital members of so many of our classrooms. Parapros serve as instructional aides, assisting in classroom settings under the supervision of certified teachers. Many of them work one-on-one with students to meet their unique needs.

District 2 is looking to fill several part-time positions that are perfect employment opportunities for retirees and for parents interested in working while their children are at school.

Both Tioga and W.A. Johnson Schools maintained “Commendable” designations this year. While Blackhawk Middle School’s cumulative score also ranked well within the “Commendable” range, it received a “Targeted” designation indicating a need to increase support for our English Learners (EL) subgroup.

The Illinois State Board of Education recently recognized Bensenville School District 2’s Pre-Kindergarten Program with the “Gold Circle of Quality, which is the highest rating a program can earn.”

The budget projects a small surplus, with expenditures and revenues roughly balancing at $46.3 million.

The Illinois State Board of Education and the District 2 school board both approved the District’s participation in a different meals program - the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). In CEP, students will only need to present their ID cards in their school’s meal lines to receive a free meal.
